Why Come, Shout, Dance? After recording 100 songs at Innovation Studios, in Steubenville, OH with Mike Ofca, I really wanted to compile some fast moving songs onto a CD to encourage praise and dance. Then, as I was naming and typing a song’s title for the first time – COME, SHOUT, DANCE - I had the distinct impression that was to be the name of the CD!!! I’ve found myself dancing around the house, but also enjoying this music as I garden, on planes and in the car with my young granddaughter, in the back seat listening to “Grandma’s music”! A year ago, some ladies shared with me how the Lord had led them to begin gathering in one of their homes regularly to dance and intercede before the Lord. This confirmed what I was sensing. To top it all off, I "happened" to find (and got permission to use) this great painting by Mark Keathley www.infinityfinearts.com, which totally shows the spirit of this music and my heart!!! God has put this CD together!! I understand that not everyone can dance around the house, or drive, etc. Sitting in a wheelchair or being confined to bed does not mean that the Lord, who loves you, cannot come to meet you and fill your heart with joy and lift your spirit heavenward! ....So my prayer is that wherever you listen to this music, that it will draw you closer to the Lord. May God be praised for it is God who gives the song!

I know that God wants to show you how much you are really and truly loved! You may not believe it or see it, but it is 100% true. GOD LOVES YOU! There is redemption, healing, new life….in Him and He wants to reveal Himself to YOU!
For those who have had an abortion or in any way encouraged an abortion….. That child is also loved by God. Come in your fear and pain, in all honesty, to this God of love and seek His forgiveness. Allow Him an opportunity to shed His light on your situation, to reveal His love and mercy to you. He wants to begin a work of healing in your life!
About all the children who have been aborted……These children are not dead but live forever with their heavenly Father and know ONLY LOVE FOR YOU. Your child watches over you, knows you, loves you, prays for you and wants to see you in heaven!
We are praying that God uses this music as an instrument of LIFE and that you can soon say to Him, “NOW YOUR LOVE I SEE!"

Brothers and sisters,
It’s 2010, and I know we all have things that happen in our lives that make us feel like our earth is being shaken! In the past year, there have been some big shakes in my life….. My Dad died in Dec.,2009, and Mom just died in July both after long illnesses. Our daughter, Katie, went to be a missionary in Haiti for a year, arriving in Jan., 6 days before the earthquake! That has been an interesting journey of trust, to say the least! Then another daughter had our 34th grandchild, Blaise, on February 16, 2010, with heart, kidney, and gastro-intestinal problems. Two days later, as Mike was putting guitar on Rescue My Heart, I looked at the clock, thinking and praying for Blaise and his parents who were at the hospital, possibly saying good-bye to their very sick newborn (who is getting better). It was a poignant moment for me but I realized it was for such a time as this that the Holy Spirit comes to comfort us and prepares us…….
You see, in late November, 2009 I asked the Lord to do something new in me with my composing. It didn’t take long before new music began to come, making it easier to enter into prayer, praise and worship. I found myself being encouraged to not look at the shaky ground but to look at the Lord and His greatness and power ….He Who is the Rock! With all that has transpired, how thankful I am to God for this wonderful (I think!!) music! I pray it will do in you what it has done in me!! ………Karen
God's Word - Alive!
About GOD’S WORD – ALIVE! I have been in parish music ministry for over 30 years and in that time I have written a lot of music to use for the Psalm response. As I began to record some of these psalms, I was struck by the fact that the words were not my own but the WORD OF GOD and that they had a transforming power because of that. I was excited thinking about this fact, and one day as I was listening to a scratch copy, not yet having a title or cover, I saw, as in a vision, the cover and title....GOD’S WORD – ALIVE!...with paint splatters….a very colorful look! This then directed my recording and prayer before each session. “Lord, let this psalm be alive musically,” was my prayer and each session found us at the end with grins on our faces! “Wow, how did that happen !!?”, we would say as the songs seemed to take shape right before us, with surprising sounds and gentleness or joy! God certainly answered my prayer, over and over again! Perhaps the new sounds struck me so much because these psalms have only been done with my guitar, a bass and maybe a piano, in church over the years. One song, Enter His Gates, I wrote in 1968 and as I played it at home and listened to the scratch copy it morphed into a bluegrass sound in my mind. I didn’t even know what bluegrass was at 18 when I wrote it!!! GOD’S WORD – ALIVE! was great fun putting together. For the most part the psalms are word for word from the New American translation used on Sundays at Mass, although I did snag a few phrases from the New Revised Standard version for the sake of the poetry. I will italicize deviations from the New American translation on the word sheets. We Sing a New Song is the one most changed, but Scriptural none the less!
I am confident
that any liturgical musician can adapt these for
parish use. And for the rest
of the folks reading this……you will enjoy the
different genres and I believe
get a deeper appreciation of the psalms.

HE IS HERE - was inspired by God! It began with Karen Herrmann, as a 9 measure, 20 second song! It grew into many parts and many vocal lines, which could all be done together and layered. With much prayer (and God’s grace!) Karen arranged it all and as good stewards of God’s gifts to them, Mike Ofca added bass, guitar, electric guitar, keyboard strings and flute, while Karen added piano and about ten other instrument sounds and simply sung vocal lines interspersed, creating this 1 hour CD. Mike recorded, produced, mixed and mastered HE IS HERE at Innovation Studios, Steubenville, OH. (www.innnovationstudios.net) Lord, thank You for the joy it was to work on this together and see it take shape! HE IS HERE – what they are saying … (men) – “took me to a deeper, contemplative level in prayer I didn’t expect” … “ministered to me as I thought and wrote about my Dad who recently died” …”it’s beautiful” …”peaceful, inspiring, could listen to it for hours”(in 80s) …”I laid in bed with a strained back and ice and listened to HE IS HERE. It was really great and relaxing!” (in SC) …”I was playing it while working for the TOR sisters and they loved it, so I gave it to them. Now I need another one!” (priests) – “wonderful …I really love it …perfect for priests and something they can use (in WV) …”I’m using it for the high school retreats” …”I want it for our parish reconciliation times” … “I want to use it during my Scripture class” (women) –“ we play it during our group’s intercession time” …”during prayer ministry time on our women’s retreat” …”during prayer for healing after Healing Masses “ …”I sat in a Jacuzzi, with candles, bubbles, tears, prayer, the Lord and HE IS HERE! It was great!” …”calmed my baby and put him to sleep” …”soothing…I like the chant-like parts” (young mom waiting for a liver transplant in FL) …” listening on the beach – wonderfully prayerful!” (59 yr. old) …”I love it“(Dominican sister) …”listened during adoration” …”The Lord is using you and others in a mighty way and we are most grateful for your obedience.” (President of Magnificat – Greensburg, PA. Chapter) HE IS HERE - with us in every situation …in our waking and in our sleeping …when joyful or sad …in a crowd or when alone …in health or in illness …in life and in death. HE IS HERE … forever ready to heal our hurts and to strengthen us. May you, as you listen, come to know in a deeper way that HE IS HERE … Jesus is with you …and may you be open to receive the graces He is ready to pour out on you!!
This CD speaks of the Father’s love
and call to each one of
us to know, love and serve Him. The
songs
celebrate our redemption and touch on aspects of
our Christian lives such
as listening to His Word, loving one another,
reaching out in service, growing
as a family, persevering in our Christian walk.
Children add their youthful
voices on several songs.

The Belize (and Beyond) Project #2 - Power For Going These songs invite the Holy Spirit to work in the listener, putting music to three prayers of the Church and moving on to “spirited” music that begs to have the listener sing along! Songs ask for renewal, healing, refreshment, empowerment with gifts and graces. Perfect for prayer groups, celebrations of Pentecost, Confirmation, Holy Spirit focused events and liturgies (I speak from experience here!) Two with Caribbean and Irish flavor. |
